16 ETHICON Endo-Surgery LAPAROSCOPIC COLORECTAL FELLOWSHIPS

Colchester (Roger Motson), St Marks' (Robin Kennedy),  Leeds General Infirmary (Peter Sagar), Plymouth (Mark Coleman), Newcastle (Hugh Gallagher), Swansea (Umesh Khot), Nottingham (Austin Acheson), Frimley (Mark Gudgeon)

  • Sixteen 6 month fellowships at each UK unit.  Ethicon Endo-Surgery provides the basic salary of a year 5 SpR.  Accommodation is available.  There is a formal on-call commitment at Colchester and St Mark's.  The fellowships commence in April and October 2008.
  • The fellowships are designed for colorectal trainees in year 5 or 6, preferably having passed part III FRCS and about to ontain their CST.  They should also have the ability to undertake colonoscopy independently.
  • These Fellowships, like the Bristol & Oxford posts, provides for the right candidate a very clinical hands-on experience.

Ethicon Endo-Surgery sponsorship will be available for travelling and accommodation expenses.



Selection criteria will include:-

• NTN year 5/6

• Evidence of experience in open colorectal surgery & laparoscopic techniques

• Reference from STC Chairman - supporting your suitability for this fellowship and giving consent to six months leave of absence from regional rotation

• Reference from current trainer

• Evidence of plans to maintain skills after the fellowship is completed.



Consultants in post will also be considered if supported by their Chief Executive and Medical Director and on the provision of a suitable record of operative experience.
